The science of Silver Creek is, to say the least, complex. The Nature Conservancy has been collecting data and working to understand the Creek’s ecological needs since the early 1970s. Only in recent years, however, has technology advanced enough to truly capture the intricate nuances of this unique ecosystem.
Through continued data collection efforts led by Ecosystem Sciences and The Nature Conservancy, we are now able to apply sound science to guide conservation decisions. New tools—including thermal imaging, LiDAR, drones, and groundwater modeling—allow us to better understand system dynamics and anticipate future needs of this invaluable resource.
As these technologies evolve, the Silver Creek Alliance actively embraces their potential to further refine our understanding of the watershed. Looking ahead, the Alliance plans to partner with organizations to develop a comprehensive geomorphic assessment of the Silver Creek watershed. This assessment will help identify and prioritize restoration projects, inform design approaches, and establish realistic budgets for implementation.
