Restoration Planning

Effective restoration planning is fundamental to the long‑term conservation of Silver Creek. Without consistent, reliable data collection—and a clear understanding of what that data tells us—it would be extremely difficult to make informed decisions that meet the ecological needs of the creek.

With support from The Nature Conservancy and the continued efforts of the Ecosystem Sciences Foundation of Boise, Idaho, we have collected high‑quality scientific data for more than seven years. This work provides a strong foundation for understanding Silver Creek’s condition and guiding thoughtful, science‑based conservation decisions.

The results of this effort are shared through the Silver Creek Annual Reports, which help keep landowners, agencies, and the public informed about the health and status of the creek. These reports are an ongoing commitment and require an annual budget of $80,000, which supports field data collection, data analysis, equipment purchases and maintenance, website administration for SaveSilverCreek.org, and publication of the reports. Hard copies of the Annual Reports are available upon request—please feel free to contact us at any time.

One of the most significant and exciting efforts completed in 2020 was the Silver Creek Assessment Report. This project was conducted in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and carried out by Ecosystem Sciences and RIO‑ASE of Boise, Idaho. The Assessment compiles decades of reports, studies, and data into a single comprehensive document that identifies areas in need of restoration and prioritizes future work. It provides agencies and landowners with a clear understanding of stream conditions and outlines restoration methods best suited to specific situations.

Looking ahead, we are also working on a cooperative water‑management program for Silver Creek, in collaboration with the Wood River Water Collaborative, The Nature Conservancy, Trout Unlimited, and the Wood River Land Trust. This effort aims to improve coordination, efficiency, and conservation outcomes throughout the watershed.

We need your help to continue this important work, and we deeply appreciate your support as we move conservation on Silver Creek forward.

Thank You,

Silver Creek Alliance
